Mom got a blood transfusion on Saturday. Her hemoglobin had dropped to 7.5 and they gave her a unit of blood. I was surprised that they did not give her more ... in fact, I think she needed two units. She went from 10.2 on Monday, March 11 to 9.5 on Friday to 7.5 on Saturday. Now she is at 8.4. Dad requested more blood but the doctors stated that they are watching her closely and do not want to give her too much fluid. She is on a floor where they constantly monitor her. The beeps went off all night long ... either her sats dropped too low or her heart rate went too high. So as soon as she beeped the nurses came in ... but they did nothing so basically Mom just spent the whole night not sleeping (Dad did not sleep either). They finally turned off the monitors once Dad asked them ... if you ain't gonna do anything then why do you have them beeping all night. Mom is really not any better (well, maybe a little bit) and she is sick and tired of being sick and tired. Dad stayed with her all weekend and Bert is with her tonight. Elizabeth is taking over in the morning. Hopefully we will have a better idea what is going on tomorrow and how long Mom will be in the hospital.
I am still coughing a lot so I am trying to stay away from taking care of Mom. I can just see her finally falling asleep then I start hacking my head off. It is so frustrating not being able to help ... all I can do is pray.
