Mom just gave me a bit of a scare ... her sat levels kept dipping below 90 which is not a good thing especially when you factor in the fact that she is on 15 liters of oxygen. So I called for respiratory and the therapist decided to move her to a new mask ... well, then it went into the 80's ... then he tried another mask and it still did not return to a normal rate. So he gave her a breathing treatment aand lowered her oxygen to 10 liters for the treatment. Mom kept falling sleep and when she did down would go her sats. Mom is a swallow mouth breather ... which is fine ... except when you are sick and her lungs are compromised. I learned this one the hard way with my visit to ICU following the birth of the kids. Even now I will stop and take very deep breaths. I have been trying to train myself to naturally (without thinking about it) take deep breaths .... its really amazing how few deep breaths we actually take. But boy, not only would the habit make you feel better on a daily basis but it would also really help when you get sick and don't want to "think" about breathing deep. Mom is sleeping now with sats of 92 ... not great, but there are no alarms going off.
They have started her on the Avelox (antibiotic) but the blood clot stuff has not arrived yet. In 30 more minutes it will be time to bug the nurses yet again.
