We headed back to MD Anderson today. We got the blood work cooking then we headed upstairs to visit with Dr. Toth, the dentist. See you just drop the "o" from Tooth then you have Toth. Anyway he explained all the things that can go wrong if you have dental surgery while on bone strengtheners. Mom needs her teeth cleaned and a crown replaced -- then she will be ready to go for some drugs that will help strengthen her bones. So this is "good news" only a few steps away from some "good ole' bone-like-make-you-feel-stronger-stuff". We are working on a dental reference then hopefully she can get the work done in mid-April in The Woodlands.
Then we went to meet with Dr. Thomas. Mom's creatinine is 1.6 (the lowest ever) and her blood urea nitrogen is well within normal range at 12 with her hemoglobin at 9.7. So we got the OK to start chemo again ... we should be done with the velcade in about 15 minutes then we can head back to The Woodlands. Mom's medications have changed yet again ... no more protonix, only 1 potassium pill a day and no more avelox. She will start the steriods tomorrow but even they were reduced to about half the number of total days ... so, it's all good. We head back on Thursday for more chemo then again on Friday for a follow-up with the renal doctor, Lahoti.
