Today we met with Dr. Lahoti (renal doctor). Mom's kidneys are functioning at about 30% which is good news. Her creatinine has leveled at 1.6 ... hopefully it will continue to improve but 30% kidney function still means no dialysis. There are several reasons that we need Mom's kidneys to continue to improve ... if something else happens like clots then they need to be able to give her contrast so that they can find the clots and with her kidneys at 30% they cannot do that ... or if she gets an infection and needs antibiotics her current kidney function will limit the antibiotics they can give ... or if she has increased pain her current kidney function will limit the pain medications that they can give her. So bottomline -- we need to continue to pray for improved kidney function. We are so very thankful that they are doing as well as they are BUT we still need to keep moving in the better kidney function area!
Yesterday Mom had her second dose of velcade (chemo) in her third cycle. So far there are still no side effects from the velcade (praise God!) and she seems to tolerate it well. She is also on a reduced amount of steriods ... instead of 4 days on and 4 days off she has the day of and the day after chemo ... so I think its about half the dosage if not more than half. So far she has been able to sleep at night even while on the steroids.
We will be back at MD Anderson for chemo on Monday and Thursday ... then on Tuesday for the stem cell transplantation meetings.
