On the cancer front, we also met with Dr. Thomas. This last cycle Mom was only treated with dexamethasone ... no chemo just steriods. This was to give her heart a break as there is a chance that some of her heart issues could have been caused by the chemo (velcade). The dex seems to have kept the cancer at bay. Mom got a tiny bit better but not any worse. Her creatinine improved from 1.6 to 1.4 and all the other blood work, bence jones, etc ... stayed about the same if not a bit lower this time. Dr. Thomas increased her lovenox (blood thinners) and her valtrex (viral infection prevention) since her kidneys seem to be doing better. She only has a month's supply as she wants to closely watch her kidney function.
The end of July we be quite exciting as we will see Dr. Plana (heart), Dr. Thomas (cancer), Dr. Lahoti (kidneys), Dr. Konzen (rehab) and Dr. Vidal (everything else) ... so I am thinking that by the beginning of August we will have a fairly good idea of where we are headed in kicking this heart and cancer thing.
Mom is still feeling fairly well. She started 4 days of dexamethasone and that always impacts her sleeping. The increased high blood pressure medication should make her feel bad at first ... but so far she seems ok. Once her body gets used to the lower pressure and heart rate she should actually feel better. Time will tell.
