The Day I was Born

Today Mom and I were discussing her "chemo brain" and the fact that she is feeling fuzzy. We decided to the day I was born to check out her memory. I was born in the middle of the day. She slept through most of the delivery. Since she had been told that she could never have children due to rheumatic fever as a child she was excited to be pregnant. But that excitement quickly ended as she had morning, noon and night sickness. At the time that Mom became pregnant with me she weighed about 89 pounds soaking wet ... so they told her she would be lucky to have a 6 pound baby (that was tiny 40 years ago). Well, I arrived a big 8 pounds 4 ounces and 22 inches long ... note that Bert was 8 pounds 3 ounces and 21 inches long. Mom had purchased 2 gowns for $2 each to take to the hospital. She had no idea how hot she would be and she ended up washing a gown out each night in the sink once everyone had gone home. Old memories seem to intact.

She wanted to know how many different kinds of whales there are ... she could only remember orca and beluga. So we chatted about sperm whales and blue whales. Then sharks including great whites, tigers and whale sharks. These items are important to know when you have 4 year old grandsons.
