Tiffany's Call

Around 5pm Tiffany called (Mom's nurse practitioner). She indicated that Mom's calcium had gone up and so had the Bence Jones so she needed to get started on treatment right away. Since Mom was already sleeping we agreed to take her to the ER tomorrow morning to get these under control. Due to the complications with Revlimid we are not sure what the next possible cancer treatment will be??

During this call Tiffany told me that if Mom did not continue treatment then she would only have weeks to live. We agreed that we needed to get Mom to the doctor so that she could understand first hand all of her options.

Since Tiffany had called Mom first then decided to talk with me instead, Dad immediately called me wanting to know what Tiffany wanted. I told him that I was dripping wet from the swimming pool and that I would be right over. I had already called Bert and he was heading over to my house so that we could talk to Mom and Dad together but since Dad called me ... I headed over to the house.

Mom was asleep so I gave Dad the news. After we cried he indicated that we should talk with the doctor not the nurse ... and that we needed to let the doctor explain the options to Mom. I went in and told Mom that her calcium was up and that we would have to go to the emergency center in the morning. At this point I am thinking that the doctor on call will be able to deliver the news and spell out the options. We all agree that Mom should pursue treatment even if its a milder version such as dexamethasone only or a reduced amount of revlimid.
