Ice, Ice and More Ice

After Mom's chemo today (velcade) she wanted us to wipe her forehead with an ice cold wash cloth. We started this before radiation and continued it as much as we could through the process. We got it going again as soon as we got back. After the doctor left it moved to an almost frantic state -- she had both me and Dad hopping. Dad was wiping her face and I was feeding her ice water. We even ended up wiping down her feer with ice water washcloths. I kept asking the nurse to sedate her -- and she did so repeatedly. The nurse said that we should leave Mom alone -- the nurse actually thought we were running around like water boys at the Super Bowl on purpose. I finally explained that Mom was the boss and the boss was hot and very uncomfortable and would she please sedate the boss so that we could all get some rest. And finally it happened ... Mom feel to sleep. She looked relaxed and even cool with a fan blowing straight into her face. I am thinking that this was a reaction to the velcade but its hard to know without talking to Mom. She is always hot and she was still taking medication for hot flashes prior to this joyous ride. Hopefully it was a temporary reaction and she will be OK in the morning -- I am hoping in the morning she can "tell" us what's going on versus this maddening game of guessing what she needs.
