The renal doctor came in to examine Mom. Her B/U is 49 which is down from 83 yesterday. He said that she is tolerating the dialysis well. She received additional blood during the process due to her anemia and it is easier for her system to accept the blood during the dialysis process. Her kidneys look good from an ultrasound perspective -- no fluid around them and they are not enlarged. Depending on her labs she may not have dialysis tomorrow -- she may take a day off from dialysis -- then they will resume on Tuesday. He said that many myeloma patients go on dialysis while the myeloma is getting under control then they no longer need it.
He reviewed her chart and saw that they are waiting for one test to complete so that they can determine exactly which myeloma drug to give her -- this is exactly what Dr. H said also. He thought she would be in the hospital for a couple of weeks and that she might not have to do dialysis once she leaves her ... wouldn't that be GREAT! Of course he is not the decision maker -- but I am hoping that they keep Mom in the hospital until she is well on her way to recovery. Her last radiation treatment is scheduled for the January 30 -- maybe a few days after that should be our goal for going home?? Keep praying ... good things are happening ... in baby steps but we are moving in the right direction.
