ALLELUHIAH! We just returned from meeting with the renal doctor (Dr. Lahoti) and NO MORE DIALYSIS!!! Mom's labs came back and her creatinine has gone DOWN to 3.8 and her blood urea nitrogen has gone DOWN to 19. Her body is starting to recover (and yes, Dr. Lahoti used the words "recovering and responding" in his discussion with us)and respond to the cancer drugs! He basically took the lab work from my hands, looked at the intake and output numbers I had jotted down then apologized for having us come down to ICU. It was a trip well worth taking as right then and there he updated her chart and told us that now we would just watch and see what her body does. If something gets out of whack ... like her creatinine or BUN starts to spike then she may need dialysis again but we hope and pray that that will not happen any time soon.
The respitory therapist (Cassidy) stopped by to congratulate Mom. She was so sweet and even said a prayerr of thanksgiving with us. Richard came by ... he was Mom's original ICU nurse and jumped through hoops to make sure she got what she needed. He is the one that went with us on the very scary trips to radiation when Mom was so critical. And the dialysis nurse (Patty)was there to congratulate Mom ... she was the original dialysis nurse and she helped Mom through her last dialysis on Saturday when she was so very sick.
I hope that was our final trip to the ICU at MD Anderson. The folks on the 7th floor are wonderful and they took very good care of Mom ... but we would prefer to visit not spend time in one of the rooms hooked up to a machine. PRAISE GOD! NO MORE DIALYSIS!!!!!
