Outpatient
It was a long afternoon as an outpatient ... the first of many I am afraid. They could not get blood from Mom's PICC line so they had to stick her. Then we had an hour wait while they processed the blood -- during the week this will take 2 hours. We went to lunch during this process. When we got back Mom's PICC line would not work for receiving the velcade so the IV team was called. That took a while and when they finally arrived they had to put some enzymes into her line to clean it out -- this process took an hour. Then they tried to insert the velcade and this time it worked. So then it was a 45 minute wait after velcade to make sure was ok. During this whole process we spoke with Dr. Thomas twice ... once to get a prescription for "just in case" she has nausea and then again to see it taking the muscle relaxer prescribed by Dr. Khan was ok -- and it was. So now we are driving home, Mom is exhausted and having back pain. We do this all again on Wednesday (oh boy! the joys of chemo!).
