Another Friday night and another day of hanging out at MD Anderson. We left The Woodlands at 10:30am and made record time to MDA. We got Mom into the fast track blood draw line ... which was no line (yeah!). Then we headed to her appointment with Dr. Konzen who was running about 30 minutes late. He was annoying as usual but he was really positive regarding Mom's rehab. He gave us his beeper number and told us to call if we are not happy with the home therapy. He thinks that Mom will easily "graduate" home therapy and be able to move to more agressive therapies such as walking up stairs and getting ready to go swimming. He said that Mom is a positive "force" when most thought she would be on dialysis ... Mom said "no, I don't like it" and a few weeks later she was off dialysis. Positive force and lots of positive prayer!
Then we headed back to the Myeloma department to wait for the blood results. And at 2:30pm we got in to see the nurse (she was not my favorite) but that be that could be because she gave us the news that Mom needed potassium and lots of it. So we sprinted down to Infusion therapy to get Mom's PICC line unclotted -- that started at 3:30pm and takes an hour to be completed. Its like putting liquid drano in her lines.
So back to the Myeloma department to see if the potassium and magnesium had been scheduled. Well, it is Easter weekend and there was no more room in the inn. So we were sent to the ER. We arrived at 4:30pm in room 24 of the ER. They started monitoring Mom and started getting stuff ordered. Luckily Mom was able to lay down and the ER ain't so bad .... private room relatively quiet.
The first bag of potassium and the magnesium are done ... now another 2 hours of potassium. Then we wait an hour then they draw blood ... then we wait another hour for the results of the blood test ... then we go home! Mom is holding up well ... but we are all ready to go home!
