Mom had a complete bone survey which is basically a bunch of x-rays. The results show that basically nothing has changed since January. One of her vertebrate (L2) shows greater collapse. The vertebroplasties performed on L2 through L5 show no evidence of any complications - which is good. She has multiple lucencies throughout her skull ... this is basically were the myeloma has eaten away at the bone (of course that is not technically correct but its the gist of what's going on). But the skull does not appear to have any significant change since January. Her spine remains demineralized and there are medullary lucencies in the right humerus (shoulder to elbow) but it does not appear at immediate risk for fracture. The lucencies in the left humerus and in both femora (thigh) the are relatively minor at this time. There is still osteoarthritis of both knee joints with the greatest in the middle compartment of the knee -- no surprise there.
So ... the bones have not gotten any worse (yeah!) and she will start Pamidronate (Aredia) next month which should improve the condition of the bones. http://www.medicinenet.com/pamidronate-injection/article.htm
