Melphalan not Effective

Today we got the results of the melphalan/dexamethasone treatment and they were not what we had hoped. Mom's blood counts were OK and the creatinine showed 1.8 ... but they re-tested today and the creatinine had gone down to 1.6 -- still high but better than 1.8. The problem was that the indicators they use to track the myeloma had increased versus decreased - ugh. Due to Mom's heart condition we are limited to the Melphalan treatment for now -- so they have doubled the dexamethasone dosage so hopefully the increase in steriods will get the cancer indicators moving in the right direction.
