We left The Woodlands at 4:30am this morning in order to arrive at Memorial Hermann by 5:30am. The MD Anderson cardio team uses Hermann for their heart procedures as they have the best equipment in town. MD Anderson is building their own but it will not be ready until next year. Doctors have discovered that chemo can negatively impact the heart (funny how poison would do that). So now MDA is beefing up their cardio practice. We spoke with Dr. Iliescu at 7:30am. They will insert catheters in Mom’s neck and groin area then they will measure the pressures on both sides of her heart. If there is blockage of the arteries then they will repair them. If there is not blockage then they will do a biopsy of the heart in order to figure out why the EF is so low. If they remove blockage then they will not do the biopsy as Mom will be on heavy dosages of blood thinners (hence – not a great time to do a heart biopsy). She will stay overnight if they do remove blockage … if they only do the biopsy then we will head home early this afternoon.
