I am trying to find someone who has been intubated before. My understanding is that removing the top is not pleasant at all and I am looking for a way to explain it to mom before they do it. Mom seems to do better if she understands it prior to it actually happening. If you have been intubated or if you know of a website where I can read about it -- please email me at davidandbelynda@yahoo.com.
It's like Mom has received a big "time out". The machine is doing her breathing so she is not struggling to catch her breath and the dialysis machine is cleaning out her kidneys. These two things are giving her very tired and exhausted body an opportunity to rest and to get caught up on all that is happening to her. Once you get over the size of the machines and just how scary this whole thing is ... Mom is resting peacefully and she is not in any pain. Hopefully she will wake up OK with the whole process though they have promised us that they can sedate her if she simply cannot handle the tube down her throat. Since the mask is no longer over her face ... she may (may being a big "may") be ok with it ... but I doubt it.
The dialysis continues with no issues and David is sitting with her as I type. Bert and Elizabeth should be here any moment to take over for David then I can take a break. I am hanging out in the waiting room so that I can catch Dad and explain how she looks before he actually sees her. Please pray that Dad can handle all that is happening and that we can all be strong for Mom.
